The official transfer of the Kibera Library from the National Government to Nairobi City County Government by IGRTC
The official transfer of the Kibera Library from the National Government to the Nairobi City County Government by IGRTC has marked significant progress in the ongoing exercise to transfer functions and enhance knowledge and literacy levels in counties. This is part of the ongoing process by IGRTC to transfer all pending devolved functions and resources to counties as per the Fourth Schedule and as directed by the 10th Summit.
During the handing over, both levels of Government committed to collaborate and cooperate to ensure the facility serves the public good and more libraries are established across the populous city to curb social vices affecting youths. Going forward, IGRTC together with the Kenya National Library Service will embark on monitoring and evaluating the performance of the function and building the capacity of the remaining 14 counties with no libraries to establish them.
The function at City Hall was officiated by IGRTC led by Chair Kithinji Kiragu, County Secretary Patrick Analo, KNLS CEO Dr. Charles Nzivo, KNLS Chairman Bishop Robert Theuri, CECM Rosemary Kariuki, Board members Linet Mavu, Angeline Hongo and the IGRTC technical team led by CEO Dr. Kipkurui Chepkwony and a host of officers from the two levels of government.
